The Advanced Beekeeping Class is directed at individuals who have already completed the Beginner Class and feel comfortable with the terminology and equipment required for beekeeping. Although a summary of the topics covered in the Beginner Class are reviewed, the Advanced Course will be in much more detail. Below provides some topics that will be covered in the class.
SECTIONS OF COURSE CONTENT:
- Summary of Beginner’s Beekeeping Info: Types of bees, anatomy of the hive, tools, and routine inspections.
- Standard Good Practice Management (GPM): Safety, hive setup & maintenance, and splitting/ growing your hive. Installing Bees and Routine Care
- Organic Pest Control & Integrated Pest Management: What is it & key points to know. Diseases, Pests and Problems
- Detailed Pest Overview: Parasites, pests, diseases, animal pests, and swarm capture
- Economics of Beekeeping: Revenue streams, selling honey & bees, other products, and making profit as a beekeeper.
- Regulations: Rules, requirements under the bee act, permits, reporting sales, location of hive, signage, and inspections.
- Intro to Apitherapy & Nature’s First Aid Kit: What is it and what are the benefits?
- Components of the Hive: What honeybees collect/ create & its benefits.
